Hello friends,

On January 14th 2024, I will be running the Aramco Houston Half Marathon which is part of the Chevron Houston Marathon. It is LESS THAN A WEEK AWAY. AHHHH.

I am sharing this post today as my last attempt to fundraise for CanCare. I shared a blog post in October about WHY I AM RUNNING and the reason I chose CanCare to fundraise for versus just paying outright for the spot to run. Fundraising for this organization is important to me because I am honoring my dad’s memory.

I am utterly appreciative of everyone who has donated to my fundraising efforts thus far and I actually exceeded the original goal I set for myself so I raised it to a higher goal. I’m only $1,300 away from meeting that higher goal.

If you are able to donate any amount to this amazing organization, that would be amazing. No amount is too small. I also understand not everyone is in a position to donate for various reasons in addition to this following the holiday season so I want to add that your emotional support for this race is also greatly appreciated. It has been a rough year in grieving and in grappling with my decision to run in my dad’s honor.

The last day for fundraising is February 1st, 2024 after the race - but I know it can be annoying to have someone ask time and time again and quite frankly, I’m not comfortable doing that anyway! So aside from sharing how the half marathon went, I will not ask for donations again - I promise.

I am a tad nervous for few reasons, but I am as ready as I can be to get out there and get through the course. I am ready to have it behind me because it has been a semi-stressor in the back of my mind simply because I’ve fundraised for it and do not want to let anyone down.

I have been running to the best of my ability and in my training have been having issues with my IT bands. I’m familiar with this because I had issues with them 10 years ago but eventually worked through it with different shoes and training methods at the gym. Well, the problem is back and I haven’t quite managed to squash it.

I know I can walk when needed and stop to stretch if needed so I am giving myself and my knees grace to take it super slow that day. I have not attempted to get back to my former running pace pre-Hashimotos and I am A-OK with running at a snail’s pace. I am not competing with anyone or to qualify for anything so it doesn’t bother me one bit. In fact, I am just happy I have been able to get to where I could run again at all post health set backs.

I am always worried about the weather. I run best when it is cold outside but waiting to start running can be mighty chilly. If it is warm and humid my whole body functions differently and what could have been a decent run turns into a major struggle. HA! There’s a major difference between the people who are naturally gifted with the ability to run and the rest of us who are working hard at it. They look graceful and glide over the pavement while the rest of us are in our heads calculating how much further, how many more songs, and using all of the motivational speeches we can to keep lifting our feet. 😂

I will be wearing one of two custom shirts I had made for the race and potentially the custom puffer vest I had made for it. The front has a blue ribbon and my dad’s name and the back of my shirt has a red ribbon and my step mom’s name. If I end up needing to wear the custom puffer vest then it will have a small blue ribbon on the front over the heart and a large blue ribbon and my dad’s name on the back. I couldn’t have both designs on the vest because of the zipper.

If you find yourself somewhere along the half marathon route - keep an eye out for my shirt! 💙❤️ The full marathoners split off from Bissonnett onto Greenbriar but the half marathoners continue into the museum district to trek back into downtown.

Thank you all for following along with my blog for however long you have, for however many posts you’re able to read. I know it may be here, there, and everywhere at times but that is just how life has been presenting itself. I do not know where the blog will take me this year and as I always have stated - I do not know for how long I will continue sharing my thoughts, but while I do - your support and encouragement means the world to me!! 🤍 In the end, it is the people we’re surrounded by that make life meaningful.

Wish me luck and say a little prayer for my IT bands and my heart, please. 🙏

I’m signing off for the rest of the week to get my mind in check and spend every extra moment I can stretching. I hope everyone has a wonderful week!

XOXO
