Home Renovation Tour - Before and After Part 2

Hello friends,

I hope your week is going well! Today we will continue on the “renovated home tour” that I started a couple of weeks ago. I think* I will continue to share the before and after posts every other week to mix them in with other post topics. If you missed the previous home tour(s) for this house then click here.

You can pin this to Pinterest to save it for later or to share.

Let’s get started.

Welcome (back) to our home!

Let’s continue on from where we left off…today we’ll tour through the formal sitting room and wine room.

The formal sitting room is my favorite room in the house. It is my “boldest” room in a way, and yet also elegant. I love everything about how it turned out.

Would it have been lovely to remain white with the original fireplace mantle? Sure. But I won the fight about tearing out the awkward fireplace that should have either gone all the way to the ceiling or stopped at the top of the mantle. It dwarfed the room in person. The professional “before” photos make the room look much larger than it is.

  • We removed the fireplace mantle and commissioned a new one to be made by Segreto Finishes as well as installed a new gas log kit.

  • We painted the room Benjamin Moore Racoon Fur.

  • We replaced the windows.

The antique looking statue on the mantle and the brass apple were my Mammaw’s and she had them in her formal living room when I was young. Some of the other decorate things (box and vase) are Marshalls purchases.

Our pink sofa was a custom purchase from Ethan Allen, but you can find lots of pretty pink sofas linked above at affordable prices.

The beautiful bird art on the walls was painted by a local artist named Peter Wu. We discovered him at the Aspen Art Festival and not only loved his artwork for our space, but we were able to purchase it from him when we all returned from Colorado. These are perfect for this room!

WINE ROOM BEFORE:

Apparently I didn’t take many photos of the wine room before the changes. But found this video. It was red brick with brown, wooden shelves.

WINE ROOM AFTER:

  • We limewashed the red brick with a mixture of our white paint like outside only less so it would show a bit more of the pink of the brick.

  • We tore out the wooden shelves and had metal wine racks installed.

  • We are STILL waiting for the AC cooling unit and are now in a lawsuit suing the company we hired so this project is never ending and I refuse to unpack the wine bottles only to have to clean red brick dust off of them after the AC cooling unit is installed one day. We have since ordered a new cooling unit from another company.

  • We replaced the hanging light with this Stoke Bishop 3 - Chandelier. It was the perfect mix of rustic glam for the room.

  • We replaced the solid wood door with a custom white door with glass that also has a lock.

I hope you enjoyed the second bit of our renovated home tour! I’ll share the formal dining room, butler’s pantry, kitchen, and breakfast area next time as we continue the tour. Or perhaps the vestibule, mud room, and den may be shared first. It depends on which rooms are tidy enough for photos. 😊
