Home Décor for the Guest Bedroom
Hello there friends,
I hope your week is treating you nicely so far.
I’m continuing us on the tour of our previous home. Last time I showed you the master bedroom and bathroom. Today I’ll move us through the guest bedrooms.
In a later post, I’ll share bits and pieces of the media room and offices/gym.
Once our new home is fully renovated and picture ready, I’ll share details about it as well. So for now let’s take a look at the past for a home tour!
Welcome back to our (previous) home! If you missed the previous blog posts of the home tour then click here. =)
When we moved into our previous house we didn’t want to spend a lot of money on the guest rooms, but also wanted them to be welcoming for my mom and my mother-in-law and any potential guests. I utilized some furniture we had from our home before this with a mix of new items as well.
GUEST BEDROOM 1
This full bedroom and bathroom was downstairs and specifically decorated for my mother-in-law. She loves bright colors and her favorite color is red so I picked items she would like even though it wasn’t my personal preference. She loved it all!
We added custom shutters to the windows and burgundy velvet black out drapes. I did not get the extra wide panels for this room because I did not intend to ever shut the curtains. However, they do come in extra wide panels. These come in 15 colors, were heavy material, and great quality.
I added this bright vintage looking rug in “garnet” to pull in the burgundy/red from the drapes. It comes in 12 color options.
We purchased this beige upholstered bed that is compatible with an adjustable base to furnish a cute little retirement community apartment for my mother in law, but ultimately she wanted to stay at home so we ended up using it at our home before this in a guest room. It was very inexpensive but held up well over the years and ultimately we gave it to a friend’s mom when we moved this time.
Same story as above with this Culverbach 6 drawer dresser and nightstands. 😉 They held up great with no issues over the years. Excellent for the pricepoint!
The Wildflower Field canvas art was a hit with my cute little mother-in-law. She loved the colors!
The Arch Wall Décor (similar style linked) I had used on my formal fireplace mantle in our home before this one and I loved them so much! I couldn’t figure out how to use them in this house so I finally hung them on either side of the bed. It wasn’t my ideal spot for them, but it worked OK.
Now, let’s take a quick look at the ensuite bathroom for a nanosecond. We tore out the tub and made it a walk in shower. This tile though. UGH. I HATED this tile. The builders installed this before we purchased the home and while it probably looks great in the right setting, it did NOT look great in this bathroom/closet. So, I eventually painted the tile floor to cover it as an inexpensive project to bide us time until husband would let me have the tile replaced. If you missed my post about revamping the utility room and painting those floors - take a look at it here. It is not a long term fix and definitely not a great idea to paint tile floors if the room has heavy foot traffic or if the bathroom is used a lot. Thankfully, this one was neither. And I added these runners in “medallion grey” to the bathroom and closet.
GUEST BEDROOM 2
This room was decorated specifically for my mom in her favorite colors. It had an ensuite bathroom (not pictured) that we also removed the tub and made it into a walk in shower.
We added custom shutters to the windows and faux linen room darkening curtains in “sea thistle”. These curtains were heavy duty quality with a soft, linen like texture. Highly recommend! It comes in 31 color options.
I added a white duvet with colorful velvet pillow cases in “light green” and a coordinated throw blanket in “aqua”. The throw comes in 24 color options. The throw pillow covers come in 17 color options!
I added the bright floral watercolor pillow covers to coordinate with the Opal House floral wall art that was my inspiration for the entire room.
We added a queen size linen tufted headboard, white nightstands, and a white dresser. These weren’t items that costed a lot, but they held up great and fit the budget at the time.
We already had the ivory white shag rug, striped chair and ottoman, and grey bench from the home before this. I thought the chair and ottoman were comfortable and would give my mom a place to sit and crochet, read, or watch TV when we was there.
GUEST BEDROOM 3
This was our non-dedicated guest room for guests. 😂
We used the ivory shag rug, dressers and nightstands from our home before this, as well as the floral wall art, mirror, and decorative pillows. The only thing we added to this room was a new bed frame identical to bedroom 2 above, faux linen drapes in “clay”, and a new white duvet.
This bedroom also had an ensuite bathroom (not pictured) that we actually kept the tub. I think all homes need at least one bathtub because future buyers may have children.
That’s it for now, friends. I’ll save the last guest bedroom for next time because we actually used it as an office/work out room. Next time, I will share the media room and office spaces. That will wrap up our home tour of our previous home.
Have you seen any items I’ve shared that you already have? Comment below! There’s so many options and sites selling the same things, so I’ve tried to compile most of them to Amazon even if that’s not where I found it.
