Let’s Look: My Desk
Hello there everyone! It’s been a minute since I’ve been able to write anything for the blog…since the end of June I believe. This summer is flying by and I’m not upset about that. It’s somewhat odd how fast the year is moving considering none of our schedules are anything like what they used to be and I haven’t been able to travel since March which is UNHEARD OF for me. I am a traveler at heart and enjoy exploring new places as much as I enjoy returning to my favorite places or jetting out to go visit my family.
These walls around me are getting old, I tell ya. #gettingstircrazyoverhere
I had hoped to keep up with a link party to share something monthly, yet I didn’t quite keep up every month. Oopsie! Well, I figured I’d join in this month and it’s about our desks. Given how much time many of us are spending at home and working from home, this seems mighty appropriate for 2020.
So here we go!
Welcome to “The Command Center”, as I affectionately call my office space. My desk is in the upstairs living room facing the windows so I overlook the back yard and pool. We transformed this space the year we got married from a very masculine, brown leather sofa with a pool table and carpet type of room to a more bright and airy, feminine-ish type of space. I love it.
My desk faces east so during the summer months when the sun is coming in strong (and hot) in the morning I keep the shade drawn pretty low. This helps keep the reflection off of my white desk out of my eyes as well, but I can still see the entire yard below. ;)

I keep my calendar to my left for scheduling and notes. My letter holder holds everything from pictures of Mammaw, airline credits, travel credits, photos I haven’t put away yet, coupons, gift certificates, wedding invitations, and cards. I like to keep dog treats for the babes and my bunny ring dish is a catch all at times (a bunny because that’s what I call Lorenzo). I also keep the gifts I still need to deliver next to my desk so that I am constantly aware that they still need to be delivered! (Since February, May, and June…because COVID!)
You can see my assortment of pens in multiple colors. I love the G2 Pilot .07 pens and I especially love having multiple colors to use. This helps me stay organized. My calendar is written in certain colors coordinating to certain things and when I worked I always made lists in different colors each day. That way when a task carried over to the next day or two and I went back to cross it off in a new color I knew which day I completed the task on. #geniusleveltipthere ;) I also work through my bible studies in different colors each day for that same reason.
My pen holder is actually a makeup brush holder! I got tired of having to roll my chair back to get a new pen or highlighter out so frequently and opted to just keep them on my desk instead.
I love to light a candle and play music when I’m working at my desk. It makes the whole mood feel serene. During the year I listen to Hillsong United Radio or Coldplay Radio on Pandora and then from November - January I listen to Christmas music on Pandora.

This fan has been a lifesaver for me recently. With the August sun blaring into the room half of the day, the AC can’t keep up and the fan keeps me sane! We also put one next to the treadmill downstairs and I am so grateful.
On the right side of my desk I keep my coffee cup warmer, my to-do pile including my to-do list, some more photos and my hedgehog my sister gave me (because I love those little guys!), and my file holder full of recurring tasks that I am not quite finished with so need to have in sight and not out of mind.
Oh, and those black rimmed glasses are my blue light blocking glasses for when I work on my computer for long periods of time. They’re not prescription glasses, just from Amazon.
I’ve talked about my coffee cup warmer in previous posts and it’s a must have for me. This specific one shuts off automatically after 8 hours and I also used to use it at the office for my candles since we couldn’t light the flame. I switched in on when I got to work and it was switching off right before I’d leave for the day. This specific one on is more than double the price from some random vendor right now on Amazon so I linked it directly to the store itself. There are plenty on Amazon to look at though, just try to look for an auto-shut off function.
On the right file cabinet I have an “inbox” sort of set up. I currently have some recent work there that I will review and submit soon, but usually that thing doesn’t get used too much. Of course, one of my three assistants is asleep on the job!
The left cabinet holds all of my personal files and files for our home. The right storage cabinet holds all of my great aunt’s personal files (and her art portfolio next to it since it’s too large to put in there).
Then there’s the rest of The Command Center:
Pups, lots of pup toys, and our beautiful space.
What is your desk space set up like? Is it different at home than at your office at work? While most days I think I could clear some of this out, the reality is I need some of this stuff in my line of sight so I do not forget it’s all there. It’s interesting to see how everyone organizes differently.
Well, friends, I actually have another post to write for you all soon. It’s been on my list to share a few things and I just haven’t sat down to write it. It’s nothing majorly life changing of course, but I like to share things that I find helpful. So keep an eye out. Who knows when it will actually come?! Not even I do! ;)
XOXO
