10 Ideas for Spring Projects Around the House

Hi there, friends.

I hope you had a lovely weekend! Did you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day?

I’m working through my never ending list of things to do and-or write about and both are coinciding with spring projects. I haven’t tackled any of these per-se, however if I was motivated or had the time, these are some projects perfect for spring. Some may overlap or coincide with my suggested list for spring cleaning so if you missed that recent post then click here.

Now, let’s take a look.

1) Clean out and organize the garage. This includes blowing out the shelves and floors of any dust, debris, and bugs. Touch up the walls where the paint has been scuffed, or at least scrub the markings off. Hose down the garage floor and the driveway to get the fine layer of dust off. Purchase baskets or bins to organize things and add labels to them. If you have multiples of things you can consider donating them (tools, cords, etc.).

2) Touch up the paint on the exterior of your home. You’ll want to make sure to wash the area first and let it fully dry, of course. If your paint is older you may want to test an inconspicuous area first to make sure the paint color hasn’t turned.

3) Wash your windows! Spring time brings a lot of yellow pollen and rain. Giving your windows a thorough cleaning on the exterior (the ones you can reach) and on the interior will allow them to sparkle and shine.

4) Freshen up your flower beds. Add seasonal flowers or add faux flowers or plants to your front porch. Seasonal flowers can add a pop of color and make your home feel fresh and inviting. Trim any dead leaves from the bushes and dead limbs from the trees.

5) Clean your front porch! Hose down the walls and front door to removed the pollen and dust and then wipe down the door and any windows. Shake out your front door mat, hose it down, and let it dry out in the sun.

6) Wash all of your floor mats and accent rugs inside your home. These may receive an occasional vacuum but they do a lot of heavy lifting and deserve a good wash. Lay them in the sun to dry.

7) Touch up wall paint throughout your house. Our walls regularly show scuff marks or dingy areas. You can try to clean it with a cloth and water first. Sometimes that’s all you need! If the markings do not come off, then you can stir up your paint and touch up the markings with a small paint brush. The room(s) will feel fresher and brighter. If you’ve been considering painting a room, then maybe now is the time to do that!

8) Organize your kitchen and pantry. I can speak from experience when I say that kitchen drawers and cabinets can become a cluster of unused, overstuffed items. When we moved I ordered plenty of bins for the pantry, an acrylic organizer for Zip-Lock bags, cabinet organizers for thermal tumblers, and acrylic utensil organizers for the drawers. I can’t rave enough about these things!

9) Access and organize your storage closet. Again, speaking from experience here. A storage closet, utility closet, coat closet, or even a mud room can become a storage spot for a lot of odds and ends. Take the time to pull things out to see if it’s something you’ve used in the past year or two, something you actually need, or something you can donate or throw away. A lot of things are forgotten about over time and you’ll mistakenly buy it again if it is something you use. These areas are also good spots to use baskets and bins for organization.

10) Clean the laundry room. How easy is it for laundry detergent to spill on the floor? Lint coats everything with a fine layer of lint dust when cleaning the lint trap in the dryer. Wipe down the cabinets and walls, the counter, and the insides of your washer and dryer. It may be time to check the dryer exhaust vent to make sure it is clear of any lint build up. Organize your detergents and products with jars and bins.

11) Bonus item - Clear out your attic. If you have an attic, this is a good time to assess what you’re storing in there and if you still need it. Before the temperature gets too hot in the summer, cleaning your attic gives you the opportunity to get rid of things you no longer need to store like old luggage, unused decorations, old toys and clothes, or old school projects you saved. Sometimes time and weather ruin these things with humidity and mold so it’s good to look through everything.

I recently shared a post about spring cleaning and using Norwex items that would all be helpful for the projects listed above such as the telescopic mop with the window pads for cleaning windows you can’t reach, the dusting wand that bends to it can clean things like fan blades and attaches to the mop handle so you can easily reach it, or the enviro cloth that is used for EVERYTHING and not only cleans but removes up to 99% of bacteria with just water. 🤯
