Hello friends,

How’s your week going so far?

In light of my recent post about pet birthday party themes, I decided to go ahead and share a long awaited and highly anticipated post about items we ordered from Amazon for our beloved, late kitty, Prince. I’m joking about it being highly anticipated but it is long awaited as I shared the Amazon Lately - Dog Edition post in September. If you missed it, make sure to go back and check it out here.

As the years passed by and he was aging, I found myself constantly trying to figure out things that would be helpful for him to make his kitty life easier and thus, make our pet-parent life easier as well. It is hard to anticipate their needs until you’re in the middle of a new set back as they age but thankfully there are a lot of items that can help facilitate their needs.

If you have a pet, make sure to pin this to Pinterest for later! If you don’t have a pet, please share this with someone who does AND go ahead and pin it to Pinterest for later when you just might end up with one.

Let’s dig in.

1) Arf Pets Cat Litter Box Enclosure:

As Prince aged towards the end, it became increasingly difficult for him to remember to go upstairs to his usual litter box in the utility room. He would still use it though so we didn’t want to move it downstairs. I found this furniture option to add to our front (dining) room and it worked well to hide the litter box, gave him privacy, and allowed him to potty without the long trek upstairs.

It was easy to assemble and Prince even helped me put it together.

I had to purchase the traditional litter box and litter for this unit because the Purina Tidy Cats Breeze pellet system (listed below) did not fit into this unit. The litter trekked throughout the house DROVE ME INSANE after using the pellet system for two years, but it was what it was as we needed this for our little senior guy.

It’s important to remember that as your kitties age they will likely stiffen with arthritis and not be able to easily crouch in tight litter box spaces. So even though we only had one cat, I made sure to get litter boxes big enough for multiple cats.

2) Purina Tidy Cat Breeze Pellet System:

This pellet litter box system was a God-send. I tried it years ago with the smaller box and we did not have any issues with Prince adapting to the pellets versus traditional litter. NO MORE LITTER! We occassionally found pellets here and there but it is NOTHING, NOTHING like having litter everywhere in your home.

When we started noticing potty issues (ie: pooping downstairs, but he always peed in the box upstairs), I switched from the small cat box system with the lid to the multiple cat box system that had taller walls but no lid (see image below).

It’s a hint pricey, but worth every penny. In the end you’re actually saving money because the pellets last a long time, the pee pads absorb a lot and can be rotated before disposal, and there’s no urine smell!

3) Cat Grooming Brush:

Prince loved to be brushed and since we are allergic to cats, that was the only way we could really love on him anyway. Santa Paws brought this grooming brush that pushed out and helped with easily removing the hair from the bristles.

We also had grooming gloves that felt extra good to him because there was the movement of our fingers with the silicone bristles.

4) Double Elevated Cat Bowls:

I ordered these elevated bowls (on the left below) in an attempt to help Prince not have to lean down as far to eat his food and hopefully aid in digestion.

5) Pet Bed Tent Dome:

Cats like to feel hidden and even though Prince spent years on top of the washer/dryer or hiding in cabinets, we wanted him to have a place to feel discrete. I added these tented (dome) pet beds in places around the house for him to hide out in. He particularly enjoyed the one at the top of the stairs under the console table and on top of the dryer.

6) Electric Heating Pads and Beds for Winter:

I ordered this for Prince when he started staying downstairs more than his usual upstairs spots and he rarely left the heating pad after that. He really enjoyed them even on the lowest setting, but in colder months I used higher settings. I later ordered more for our pups, too.

7) Useful Furniture:

When I remodeled the utility room in the previous house I was eager to get rid of the traditional, carpeted pet steps for two reasons. It was an eyesore that also housed germs from kitty vomit and litter box feet and it was easy for our clever pups (Loretta) to figure out that she could access Prince’s food on the counter.

I found a tiered side table that fit perfectly between the washer/dryer and the counter (see image above with litter box). I showed Prince that it was safe to jump onto it and after a couple of demonstrations of placing him on the table he had no problems using it to access the counter.

The exact one is sold out but two the below are similar.

8) Pet Stairs:

We have these extra large foldable steps for our bed that is higher, these 3 tier high density stairs for our couch downstairs, and these step comfort stairs in X-Small for our couch upstairs. There are different size and color options for each one. These helped Prince around the house, but also help our pups.

9) Furniture Protectors

As Prince was aging and setting up residency in new parts of the house, we had to figure out how to protect our furniture from his accidents. Any senior pet will eventually have accidents just as we will too as aging humans…it’s a part of life.

I added seat pads to the chairs in our formal dining room because he was determined to set up camp in the chairs and I even added a heating pad to his favorite chair. Did I want him on those chairs? No…but until I figured out a way to encourage his comfort in another spot I had to work with his needs.

I added couch protectors to our sofas and chairs in the living rooms. It wasn’t the prettiest of decisions ever made, but it was functional for the if and when Prince would want to be social with us.

These all come in various color options.
