Happy Valentine's Day
Good Morning , friends!
Happy Valentine’s Day! ❌⭕❌⭕
I hope you have a lovely day whether you celebrate this Hallmark holiday or bah-humbug it. I enjoy all things about LOVE and while I’m not particularly feeling all the feels these days I do still remember how sweet it is to feel special and cherished on this day.
Love should be expressed and shared and celebrated all year long so I never hold this holiday to a high expectation, BUT there is something sweet about the sentiment(s) and seeing others feel special when they receive flowers or candy or notes.
I grew up in a flower shop and Valentine’s Day was the busiest holiday next to Mother’s Day and I remember the chaos and preparation leading up to the day. My parent’s would hire extra people to help design and deliver flowers. We’d prep late into the night and on the weekends: processing flowers, cleaning plant leaves, sweeping and mopping nonstop, answering the phones to take orders, filling up helium balloons, pre-making bows (something I never did master), manning the cash register, cleaning the front cooler and the walk in cooler, prepping vases with foam and tape, pre-cutting balloon string, and pulling leaves from the water in the flower buckets. I’m sure I’m leaving things off of that list. But, you get the drift. Valentine’s Day was a BIG day in the industry and this was before grocery stores sold flowers and before the internet. My dad would comment that love shouldn’t be one day a year and that it is a made up holiday and it registered in my young brain. Why do people wait all year to send flowers if you love someone? We’re not guaranteed another day…
Moral of the story - tell your family, friends, and significant others how you feel and tell them often. ❤️
Now, here’s some fun stuff.
