Hello dear friends,
How has your summer been so far? Are you getting ready for the “back to school” season for your family? I feel like this summer went by very fast and yet also very slow because of the oppressive heat we’ve had since May. More than usual I am excited for the promise of autumn even though our temperatures do not typically start lowering until October.
While enduring this horrid heat I have procured quite a many thing from Amazon during our move that I thought I’d share. I’ll be focusing on non-decor type of items in this post and will share the decor items later on in another post. While you may not need these items just yet, make sure to bookmark this page or pin it on Pinterest for later!
1) When we moved to our previous house with the master bedroom upstairs it dawned on me we needed to be able to escape the house should there be a fire. I purchased these escape ladders for every room upstairs and two for our master bedroom so that we could both get out in time with the pups. Whenever we have a guest I always make sure they know where the escape ladder is in their room.
2) I also purchased these fire blankets with gloves for our kitchen, our master bedroom, and for the third floor bedroom. The hooks have a peel and stick backing so it is easy to apply inside of a cabinet door.
3) I started using this sound machine a while back to help drown out other sounds. It occurred to me that it also helps the pups sleep better as well. I decided to add one to our guest bedrooms to help any guests not hear us as much, too.
4) We have three pups to clean up after outside and decided to get this diaper pail to help with the soiled potty bags. Yes, it would be great for baby diapers as well, but our is kept on our back patio for the pups. =)
5) I very quickly realized that our chairs were scratching the floors when we moved into our current home and ordered these silicone leg protectors that have felt tip bottoms. They work perfectly and come in various sizes so make sure to measure the bottom of your chairs or barstools.
6) We have two of these simplehuman wall mount shower pumps in our shower. A three pump dispenser for the husband and a two pump dispenser for me. It attaches to the shower walls with an adhesive pad and does not budge! The cannisters are easy to take off and/or refill. This helps keep our shower shelf clear of shampoo/conditioner/shower gel bottles.
7) We added/replaced a Rev-A-Shelf pull down closet thing that was in the husband’s closet. Thankfully we were able to just drill right into the holes already from before but generally the assembly was and would be pretty easy if you might could use one of these for a taller closet.
8) I found this small automatic trash can and decided to get it for my closet. I wish it were a little less expensive because it’s hard to justify replacing all of the trashcans we already have throughout the house, but I do think this one would be ideal for a guest/powder bathroom. I actually ended up seeing it at my sister’s house as well and knew I needed to share it!
In our last house I had purchased this simplehuman step trash can as well.
9) I prefer to hang dry my work out clothes so every week our laundry room is full of hanging clothes! In our last home I did a full laundry room makeover and added two of these pull down drying racks and let me tell you - it was love. I loved the way they looked and how they functioned.
In our new home, we do not have the wall space to add the same ones and there’s built in cabinets that are not actually deep enough for hangers even if* we installed a closet rack/bar. So I decided to install these wall mounted accordian style drying racks and they are actually very sturdy! I installed two of them, but may eventually add two more to the other cabinet side.
10) Kitchen items:
I ordered this nugget ice maker to help in the interim while we’re waiting for our new refrigerator to arrive (estimated in January). The one that was here in this house is very old and I’m not actually even sure that the ice maker works or is hooked up. So, for now I purchased this thing. It works as described but it does take a long time to make a bag full of ice. It comes with a bag. Thankfully the small refrigerator in our master bedroom makes plenty of regular ice as well, but this is nice to have should we need to make nugget ice.
I use this hand towel stand for the sink in our butler’s / bar area.
We opted for gold accents in our kitchen and I found this sink protector grid to help protect our new sink. I had a stainless steel one (different brand) for our previous house as well. You’ll want to measure your sink first, of course. After two months of daily use it hasn’t tarnished.
When we moved I decided to toss our previous drawer organizers because 1) they didn’t fit into our drawers and 2) they’d seen better days. I used each of these in various drawers to organize based on drawer size and need.
A few more items for the kitchen that I ordered are this Ziplock bag organizer, water bottle organizer, and gold suction hooks.
I have a plethora of other home items I’ve ordered but I don’t want to bog you down too much more. Once our house is photo-ready I will be able to share more room by room.
